Working area:

Five districts of Bangladesh (Dhaka, Gopalgonj, Faridpur, Madaripur, Shariatpur).

 

 

Target people:

Marginal farmers, landless, day labors, illiterate, working children, destitute women, neglecter mother and children, unemployed vulnerable women and disadvantage section of the society who live below the poverty line are the target community distressed rural area above districts.

 

 Activities performance/performing by Active Social Welfare Society.

 

 

Motivation and group formation:

The main goal of the organization is organizing the rural illiterate and unconscious people, motivation them and make knowledge able in different issues which are life and livelihood oriented. Because most of the people target people are identified and motivated for understanding the goal and objective of the organization. When they become self-motivated and felt need of organizing, the staff organizes them into small groups and inters group's structure for their empowerment, social-economic development and participation indocile decision-making processes. These groups are the main shekels of all program implementations. These groups are formed considering the age, economic condition, literacy situation caste, sex etc. Each group includes average 20 members and each group has one chairperson, one secretary one cashier and lead the group activates. The group meeting discussion topics are (a) Identification of local Government facilities, (b) Technique for gating local Government facilities, (c) Importance of weekly group, (d) Income generating activities (e) Primary health nutrition and family welfare, (f) Water and sanitation, (k) Neat and cleanliness, (l) Prevention of HIV/AIDS, (m) providing green energy.

 

Training Program:

Since inspection training is an important component of Active Social Welfare Society development strategy. Active Social Welfare Society has decided to establish a training center in Mirpur at Dhaka district which will provide training facilities for Active Social Welfare Society staff, target people and other organization. At present training is providing to the staff and the target people in higher training center. The necessary trainers are also hired as on training need.

 

Education Program:

Active Social Welfare Society feels education is the main and important factor for all development activities. So education gets top priority in every case of development affairs. Active Social Welfare Society educates the targeted people in different way to raise their level of understanding before starting any project activities and to predicate illiteracy. To this end Active Social Welfare Society emphasis adult education programs with it's won contribution.

 

Adult Education:

Active Social Welfare Society implemented adult education program in Tangail district with the financial and technical support by organization won fund. The distribution project was from 2009-2011 through the project period a total of 345 adults have been made literate at the cost of amounting Tk. 95,000/- only.

 

Women Development:

Help of the population of the country is female. But most of them illiterate, socially less conscious, malnourished, poor and deprived by traditional cultural norms. The women enjoy less status compare to man. The discrimination starts at birth and continuous up to death. The women are not socially well permitted to go out of the family, participate in education and economic activities. They are the victim of social disease like divorce, abandoned, separation, polygamy dowry early marriage and torturing. Moreover being a traditional segregated society, Women are often denied to access to many opportunities. The endemic poverty, wide spread malnutrition, illiteracy and deprivation of socio endemic right are ammos in the Active Social Welfare Society has the strategy to integrate all women issue. Following points relic the women development training and other programs women participation has been raised. It is notable here that 85%. Group of Active Social Welfare Society are of females. After all much is given to formless, in all programs of Active Social Welfare Society.

 

Legal Aid Education:

The rural people are not conscious at all about their legal rights, legal law act. So they become victims and are chatted by the Matabbars and touts being misguided Active Social Welfare Society has been education targeted people on education, arranges workshops conflicted and also provides legal supports to the poor victims.

 

 

Water and Sanitation:

In rural area of Bangladesh, generally the people do not use pure drinking water and eater sealed latrines. As a result different water borne disease spread out and attacks the people and kills lot of voluble lives every year at undue period Considering the important so Active Social Welfare Society has been implementing pure drinking water supply and sanitation program in its projects area with its own initiatives and own fund since 2009. This year ASWS implement supply of pure Arsenic free drinking water in the North West south region of Bangladesh with its associate partner's organization.

 

Arsenic Related Motivation:

Since 2009 Active Social Welfare Society has been motivating the target beneficiaries as well as the community people for consciousness rising about miserable impact of arsenic infected tube-well Active Social Welfare Society has been also arranging to mark arsenic affected tube-well including identifying the arsenic affected patients and motivate and assist them to take necessary measure of it. Active Social Welfare Society has been enough skilled and experience staff of arsenic related activities.

 

Social Forestation program:

To prevent environment degradation Active Social Welfare Society has been implementing different kind of programs in the operational areas. Forestation program in project areas intensively and extensively. The main components of this program area (a) Nursery development program of sapling and supply, (b) Road side tree plantation. The staffs of the organization motivate and plant trees. They also motives and encourage them not to cut any tree, about the bad effect of environmental degradation and pollution how to prevent pollution etc.

 

Fish culturing:

Active Social Welfare Society stared fish culture program in Bagerhat District in 2009. Up to this period a project implement with SEHAF-Bangladesh about community based open water fish culture and management project.

 

 

Year round Homestead Vegetable Grading Project:

Active Social Welfare Society implement year round homestead vegetable grading through modern technology transfer with technically and financially supported by on found at Jamalpur district in 2009-2010.

 

Disaster Management Project:

Since a long Active Social Welfare Society has been working on relief and rehabilitation for the disaster of flood affect area of Active Social Welfare Society. A team of 2 members have received disaster management training and according they are involved in Active Social Welfare Society initiated disaster management activities.

 

 

Management aspect 

Active Social Welfare Society managed by executive body. The general committee is consisted of 7 Members who elect 7 members executive committee. The supreme office is heard by Chairman who is responsible for overall activities of the organization Active Social Welfare Society maintaining participatory and bottom up management policy in its development activities.

 

ASWS’s Operational Activities

ASWS comprises four core programs, three projects and one special program, amounting to nineteen activities. Core programs are the driving force behind ASWS’s expansion and growth. They include rural microtrade, urban microtrade, micro enterprise program, ultra poor program, agriculture sector microtrade, community health service and handicraft.

            The three projects are Learning and Innovation Fund to Test New Ideas, Program Initiatives for Monga Eradication, Microtrade and Technical Support, Microtrade for Marginal and Small Farmers, Second Participatory Livestock Development Project, Disaster Management Fund, Livelihood Restoration Program and Emergency Flood Restoration and Recovery Assistance Program.

            ASWS’s Special Program is Small Business & Livestock Enterprises and Employment of the Ultra Poor (FSOEUP).

 

Operational Strategy

The basic operational strategies of ASWS have been drawn from its objectives, which are the following:

a.       It does not directly lend money to the poor but rather reaches its target groups through      

          Microtrade program.

b.      It provides greater thrust to institutional development; and

c.       It does not favor a particular model; but rather encourage innovations and various   

           Approaches based on experience.

 

Legal Structure

 

Legally ASWS is a “Society not for profit” and is registered under the Companies Act of 1960/1994 with the Registrar of Joint Stock Companies. The legal structure of ASWS allows flexibility, authority and power to take programs and implement them throughout the country and managing its affairs as an independent organization.

 

Funding of ASWS

ASWS mandate authorizes ASWS management to mobilize funds in the forms of grants, loans and contributions from a wide variety of sources, which include the Government of Bangladesh (GOB), private individuals and organizations, foreign governments, international donors and lending agencies and capital markets

 

Governance

 

ASWS comprises of two constitutional bodies as per Article of Association: the General Body and the Governing Body.

 

Training for External Organizations: ASWS also conducts training for domestic and foreign organizations.

 

Workshops/Seminars: ASWS regularly organizes workshops/seminars on various pertinent issues to strengthen its multidimensional development operations of its clients & beneficiaries.

 

Technical Management:

All the funds of deposited in its Bank Account, which is operated with the joint of the chair person, secretary and the treasurer of the Executive Committee. In the progress are reviewed to and approved and then the budgeted approve amount is transferred to the operation account which is operated by the executive director and the treasurer jointly. The accountants maintains all the accounts and documents according to the accounting principle and audit standard. The executive director approves the all expenditure and the treasurer time to time checks the accounts.

 

Future Reflection and Conclusion:

Organization expects to play significant role toward development of above districts having positive impact on national development. Therefore organization will be with the people and work. Thus the people will be in a position to analyze their situations, develop community people themselves will be empowered to run their own development activates toward sustainability.
